Lieu de l'œuvre

Seiseki-Sakuragaoka (Iroha-zaka & the rotary)

The winding hill road and the rotary at the top, both drawn through Whisper of the Heart. Thirty minutes from Shinjuku.

A hillside residential district in Tama whose streets run through Whisper of the Heart: the winding Iroha-zaka slope, the rotary at the top with trees in the middle, and the view back over the Tama river valley. The antique shop in the film does not exist, but the rotary it faced does.

Pourquoi ça vaut le détour

It is thirty minutes from Shinjuku and free, and the walk up the hill is the film almost shot for shot.

Quand y aller

Quiet — it is an ordinary residential area.

Bon à savoir

This is a residential neighbourhood, not an attraction: no loitering outside houses, no photographing into gardens, and keep your voice down. Tama city and shops near the station distribute a pilgrimage map — pick one up before climbing.
