Azabu Hikawa Shrine
The model for Hikawa Shrine, where Rei lives and the group meets. Often described as the place that started anime pilgrimage in Japan.
A small neighbourhood shrine on a slope in Moto-Azabu, with a stone staircase up to the grounds. It is the model for the shrine where Rei Hino lives and works as a miko, and where the group gathers through the series. Fans have been coming since the 1990s, which is why it is frequently named as the first anime pilgrimage site in Japan.
Pourquoi ça vaut le détour
It has no signage, no merchandise and no acknowledgement of the series at all. It is simply the shrine, unchanged, in a very quiet part of central Tokyo.
Quand y aller
Almost always quiet.
Bon à savoir
This is a working local shrine in a residential street with embassies on it. Keep your voice down, bow at the torii, and do not photograph the shrine office or residents. Combine it with the shopping street and the park — all three are within about ten minutes of each other.
