Asahi Inari Shrine (rooftop, Ginza)

The model for the rooftop shrine where Hina receives her power — a real shrine on the roof of a Ginza office building.

A small Inari shrine on the roof of an office building in Ginza, with a ground-floor worship hall connected to it by a pipe so that offerings and prayers carry up. In the film the rooftop shrine sits on a derelict building; in reality that rooftop is here in Ginza, and it is open to anyone who takes the lift.

Pourquoi ça vaut le détour

A shrine on an office roof in the middle of Ginza is one of the strangest small sights in Tokyo, and it is free and takes ten minutes.

Quand y aller

Almost always empty.

Bon à savoir

The building the derelict staircase came from, Yoyogi Kaikan, was demolished and the site redeveloped — do not go looking for it. Here, use the lift, keep quiet, and remember there are offices on the floors below.

Les Enfants du temps

The rooftop shrine — the real one is in Ginza.
