Kyoto in One Day: Manga, Film Sets and Shijo

Three hundred thousand volumes you can actually read, a working period-drama film lot, and the shops on Shijo.

Kyoto is not usually thought of as an anime destination, which is exactly why this day works — none of it competes with the temple crowds. The Kyoto International Manga Museum keeps its collection on open shelves in a preserved 1929 school building and lets you take a volume outside to read. Toei Kyoto Studio Park in Uzumasa is a working film lot for period dramas that visitors walk through. The day ends on Shijo Kawaramachi, where the official character stores are, which is also where you were going to eat anyway.
