A shrine on a headland above the Pacific, with a separate torii gate standing on the rocks in the sea below — a well-known sight in its own right. The long stone staircase appears in the film, and the shrine has a large series ema alongside hundreds of hand-painted ones left by fans.
Pourquoi ça vaut le détour
The sea torii at sunrise is worth the trip on its own. That the shrine is also a location, and that the ema wall exists, makes it the centre of the Oarai pilgrimage.

Rent a bicycle at the station area — the shrine, the beach and the shopping streets are spread out and buses are infrequent. Sunrise over the sea torii is the shot people come for, which means arriving before dawn.
