Lieu de l'œuvre

Mizuki Shigeru Road

178 bronze yokai statues along an 800-metre street, from the station to the memorial museum. Free, and lit at night.

The main street of Sakaiminato, running 800 metres from the station to the Mizuki Shigeru Memorial Museum, lined on both sides with bronze statues of yokai from the work — 178 of them, added gradually since 1993. There is a yokai shrine on the road, themed shops, and a stamp rally covering the whole street.

Pourquoi ça vaut le détour

It is free, open at any hour, and it is the most complete example anywhere of a Japanese town rebuilding itself around a manga — decades before Oarai or Numazu did the same thing.

Quand y aller

Busy in the daytime in summer; quiet after dark.

Bon à savoir

Come in the evening if you can — the shadow projections on the pavement and the lit statues are better than the daytime version, and the street empties out. The JR Sakai line trains are themed too, and Sakaiminato is about 45 minutes from Yonago.

Kitaro le repoussant

178 bronze yokai along 800 metres of street. Free.
