Your Name is the film that made Japanese animation a mainstream cinema event overseas, and its most photographed location is a flight of stone steps beside Suga Shrine in Yotsuya, central Tokyo. The steps are where the final scene takes place, and they appear in the key visual. They are free, outdoors, in a quiet residential area — and that last part matters, because the volume of visitors has become a genuine issue for the neighbourhood. The other half of the film is set in the mountains of Gifu, where the town of Hida-Furukawa provided the models for the rural scenes.

Where are the stairs from the final scene?
Beside Suga Shrine in Sugacho, Shinjuku ward, about seven minutes on foot from Yotsuya-sanchome station. They are public steps, free and open at any hour.
Are there rules about visiting the stairs?
Yes. It is a residential street and people use the steps daily. Do not block them, do not photograph residents or doorways, keep your voice down and take your rubbish with you.
Where is the countryside half of the film?
Hida-Furukawa in Gifu — the station, the town library and the local shrine. It is on the JR Takayama line from Nagoya or Toyama and pairs well with Takayama.
