Theme park

Tokyo Joypolis (Sega)

Sega's indoor theme park, three floors of DECKS Tokyo Beach. Entirely indoors, so weather does not matter.

Joypolis is what Sega built instead of a museum: three floors of attractions in the arcade tradition, ride simulators, VR, and light-gun games, updated regularly. It has been in Odaiba since 1996, which makes it older than most of the buildings around it.

Why it is worth it

It is fully indoors. On a day when the bay is under rain, this is the one thing in Odaiba that does not care.

When to go

Weekends and Japanese school holidays are busiest. Weekday afternoons are comfortable.

Good to know

Decide between an entry-only ticket and the passport before you go in — the passport is only worth it if you intend to ride several attractions. The real-size Unicorn Gundam statue is a few minutes away on foot, so treat the two as one afternoon rather than two trips. Hours move around, so check the official site the morning you go.
