The viewpoint over the pine grove and the bay, and the wide shot the series uses for Hasetsu.
A flat-topped hill southeast of the town with a road to the summit and a free observation deck, looking down over Niji-no-Matsubara — a pine forest several kilometres long running along the bay.
Why it is worth it
This is the view that establishes the town in the series. It is free, and it is the best thing in Karatsu regardless of the anime.
When to go
Quiet.
Good to know
There is no useful bus service for most of the day, so a taxi from Karatsu Station or a rental car is the realistic option. Go in the late afternoon for the light over the bay.
