Karatsu in a Day: Three Series, One Town

Yuri!!! on ICE, Zombie Land Saga and the Kingdom project all land in the same small castle town.

Karatsu is a castle town of about 110,000 people on the Genkai Sea, 70 minutes from Fukuoka, and it happens to be the setting of Yuri!!! on ICE, one of the five cities in Zombie Land Saga, and part of the prefecture running the Kingdom collaboration. Start at the station tourist office for the official Yuri map, work outward on foot, and finish at the Kagami viewpoint in the late afternoon light. This is the highest series-per-kilometre ratio anywhere in Japan.

    Ask at the tourist office for the official Yuri!!! on ICE pilgrimage map by name. Stock is not guaranteed, so do this first.

    Karatsu Castle

    Karatsu (JR Chikuhi / Karatsu line) · 20 min walk

    The lift saves the stone stairway if you are short on time. The view takes in the pine grove and the bay.

    Karatsu City History and Folklore Museum

    Normally closed to the public — you may only see the exterior. Check before going.

    Mount Kagami Observatory

    Karatsu, then bus or taxi

    Late afternoon is the best light over the bay. There is no useful bus for most of the day, so plan a taxi back.
