Furuyu Onsen
A hot spring town in the hills north of Saga, taking part in the Kingdom collaboration until 30 September 2026. The water is unusually cool, so you can soak for a long time.
Furuyu is a small, old hot spring town on a river in the hills, known for water around body temperature rather than the scalding baths common elsewhere in Japan — which means you can stay in for half an hour without difficulty. During the collaboration the town centre carries Kingdom decoration.
Why it is worth it
It is the part of this trip that is worth doing regardless of the collaboration. Low-temperature hot springs are rare and the town is quiet in a way the major onsen resorts are not.
When to go
Quiet on weekdays.
Good to know
It is about an hour north of the airport and the seawall, in the opposite direction, so treat it as an overnight rather than squeezing it into the same day. Check individual bathhouse hours before going — several are closed one day a week.
