The real Usagiyama arcade. A working market that cooperated with the production and kept the relationship.
A covered shopping arcade near the Kamo river delta, and the model for the arcade in the series. Greengrocers, a fishmonger, a tofu shop, a mochi shop with a permanent queue — it is a working local market, not a tourist street. The arcade cooperated with production and still displays material and keeps a fan notebook.
Why it is worth it
It is five minutes from the Kamo delta, where students sit on the stepping stones, and it is one of the few parts of central Kyoto that has not been rebuilt for visitors.
When to go
Busy in the late afternoon.
Good to know
Buy something. It is a market that survives on local trade, and the reason it still has the display up is that fans have been decent about it. Bring cash.
