Anime location
Tatebayashi Station & Morinji Temple
The station the series opens at, and the temple of the hundred tanuki statues one stop away.
Tatebayashi Station appears in the opening act of the series. One stop south, Morinji temple is lined with more than a hundred tanuki statues along its approach — it is the temple of the Bunbuku Chagama folk tale, and it has nothing to do with the anime, which is part of why the town is a pleasant place to spend a day.
Why it is worth it
Tatebayashi is an ordinary town about 80 minutes from Asakusa, which is exactly what the opening act needs it to be.
When to go
Quiet.
Good to know
Download the pilgrimage map from the local site before you go — the printed version is no longer distributed. Tsutsujigaoka Park is 30 minutes on foot from the station.
