Widely regarded as one of the best anime of its decade outside Japan, and its opening act is set in **Tatebayashi** in Gunma — an ordinary town about 80 minutes from Asakusa. **Tatebayashi Station**, **Tsutsujigaoka Park** and Shobo-ji temple all appear. The Tsutsujigaoka Fureai Centre inside the park keeps official Tatebayashi merchandise, life-size character panels and a corner for fan work. The printed pilgrimage map is no longer distributed, but a local site publishes a downloadable version.
