A large 1980s housing development in Nerima built on a former airfield, with a big park at its centre and rows of high-rise blocks around it. The 1999 film opens here, with the children meeting a Digimon among the towers, and the estate is drawn recognisably.
Why it is worth it
It is an ordinary place people live in, and that is exactly why the opening works. Twenty minutes from Shinjuku on the Oedo line.
When to go
Quiet.
Good to know
This is a residential estate, not an attraction. Walk the park and the public paths, do not photograph into homes, and keep your voice down.
