Fujiko F Fujio Hometown Gallery, Takaoka
The gallery in the town where the author grew up, inside Takaoka Art Museum. The other half of the Doraemon story.
Hiroshi Fujimoto — Fujiko F Fujio — was born and raised in Takaoka, and it is where he and his lifelong collaborator met as schoolboys. The city gallery inside Takaoka Art Museum holds original artwork and material about his beginnings here, which is a different story from the Kawasaki museum: Kawasaki is where he worked, Takaoka is where he started.
Why it is worth it
It is 500 yen, it needs no advance ticket lottery, and it covers the part of the story the Kawasaki museum does not.
When to go
Quiet.
Good to know
Closed Mondays. Unlike the Kawasaki museum, no advance booking is required. Takaoka is on the Shinkansen line between Kanazawa and Toyama, so it fits into a Hokuriku route.
