ARTNIA (Square Enix Cafe and Shop)
The only permanent Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest place in Japan. A cafe and shop under the Square Enix head office.
ARTNIA opened in 2012 on the ground floor of Shinjuku Eastside Square, the building that holds Square Enix's head office. It is one room, divided into a cafe, a goods floor and a glass case of silver jewellery. The crystal by the entrance is the photograph everybody takes. The menu is themed but it is a real cafe, and after 17:00 it serves alcohol.
Why it is worth it
There is no Final Fantasy theme park and no Dragon Quest museum. This is the whole of it, and it is five minutes from Shinjuku.

When to go
Cafe seats go at lunch and in the evening. The shop side is rarely crowded.
Good to know
Entry to the shop is free — you do not have to order anything. The cafe fills up at lunch and after 18:00; the shop is fine any time. Closures are irregular, so check the site the morning you go. It is a different station from Shinjuku itself: Higashi-Shinjuku, one stop away on the Fukutoshin or Oedo line.
