Square Enix (Final Fantasy / Dragon Quest)

One permanent cafe and shop, and it is the only one.

Final Fantasy sells more outside Japan than inside it; Dragon Quest is the reverse, and is a national institution here. Neither has a park. Square Enix built one permanent room instead: ARTNIA, a cafe and shop under the company head office in Shinjuku, open since 2012. There is a crystal in the entrance, silver accessories you cannot buy abroad, and a cafe menu. It takes forty minutes and costs whatever you order. Everything else in Japan is a pop-up that ends.

Common questions

Is there a Final Fantasy theme park in Japan?

No. There is no Final Fantasy park and no Dragon Quest museum. ARTNIA in Shinjuku is the only permanent Square Enix place in Japan. Everything else is a pop-up cafe or exhibition that ends.

Do I need a reservation for ARTNIA?

No. The shop is free to walk into and the cafe is walk-in. Seats fill at lunch and after 18:00, but the shop side is rarely crowded. Closures are irregular, so check the official site the morning you go.
