Kyoto Animation drew Uji with the precision the studio is known for, so this walk lines up almost frame for frame. Arrive at Keihan Uji — the station the series opens on — cross Uji Bridge, then climb the wide path behind Ujigami Shrine to the Daikichiyama observation deck, about 20 minutes up and free. Come down for tea on the Byodoin approach. Go early: Uji is a major tourist town and the bridge area fills up by mid-morning in autumn.
