Tezuka Osamu Manga Museum
The museum in the town Tezuka grew up in, covering Astro Boy, Black Jack, Phoenix and Princess Knight.
Takarazuka city's museum for Osamu Tezuka, who moved here as a child and spent his formative years in the town. It covers the full body of work with original materials, a library where you can read the manga, and an animation workshop where visitors can make a short piece.
Why it is worth it
Everything else on this site descends from his work. If you want to understand why Japanese comics and animation look the way they do, this is the place that explains it, and it is 700 yen.
When to go
Quiet on weekdays.
Good to know
Closed Mondays, plus a maintenance closure in late February — check before travelling. Takarazuka is 25 minutes from Osaka, and the Revue theatre is on the same promenade if that interests you.
