Nakanokura Pass Viewpoint

The view printed on the back of the 1,000 yen note: Mount Fuji reflected in Lake Motosu.

A viewpoint above Lake Motosu reached by a steady uphill path. The photograph that became the design on the back of the 1,000 yen note was taken from here, and on a still morning the reflection of Mount Fuji in the lake is the exact image on the banknote.

Why it is worth it

Hold the banknote up against the view. It is free, and it is the best thing in the area whether or not you have seen the series.

When to go

Quiet.

Good to know

It is a proper 30-minute uphill walk, not a roadside stop — wear real shoes. Go at first light for the reflection; wind ruins it by mid-morning. Bring a 1,000 yen note.

Laid-Back Camp (Yuru Camp)
