Nagi Museum of Contemporary Art & Mount Nagi

The town the author of NARUTO grew up in, below Mount Nagi. The town museum has hosted NARUTO exhibitions.

Masashi Kishimoto was born and raised in Nagi, a small town in northern Okayama below Mount Nagi, which gives the town its name. The town museum — a striking building by Arata Isozaki with three permanent installation rooms — has hosted NARUTO exhibitions presenting the landscape and climate here as the origin of the work's world.

Why it is worth it

It is the only place in Japan connected to NARUTO that is not a themed attraction. The museum itself is genuinely good architecture, and the mountain behind the town is the landscape the author grew up in.

When to go

Quiet.

Good to know

NARUTO exhibitions here are temporary, not permanent — check the museum's current programme before travelling, and go for the museum and the landscape rather than expecting a NARUTO display. Access is by bus from Tsuyama, which is itself two hours from Okayama.
