Hakone-Yumoto is the gateway to Hakone and the station Shinji arrives at when he comes to Tokyo-3. The official shop, Evangelion-ya, sits in the station building and carries Hakone-exclusive goods — it has been trading here for well over a decade, so it is a fixture rather than a pop-up.
Why it is worth it
It is the start of the Hakone loop, so the pilgrimage and the standard Hakone sightseeing route are the same journey.

Busy at weekends and in autumn.
Good to know
Buy the Hakone Free Pass at Shinjuku before you leave — it covers the train, the mountain railway, the cable car, the ropeway and the lake boat, all of which you will use on the Tokyo-3 loop.
